ਬੱਚਨ ਬਾਰੇ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਜਾਂ 'ਗੱਪ ਕਥਾ' ਛਪੇ ਤਾਂ ਅਕਸਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਇਕ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਣ ਲਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ... ਉਹ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਣ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ : ਸਦੀ ਕੇ ਮਹਾਨਾਇਕ ਜਾਂ ਅਖੇ, ਬੌਲੀਵੁੱਡ ਕੇ ਮਹਾਨਾਇਕ। ਜਾਂ ਬਿਗ ਬੀ। ਸਦੀ ਦਾ 'ਮਹਾਨਾਇਕ' ਕੌਣ ਹੈ? ਤੇ 'ਨਾਇਕ' ਕੌਣ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ? ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਲੈਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਦੀ ਭਾਵ  ਯੁੱਗ। ਨਾਂ ਸ਼ੱਕ ਅਮਿਤਾਭ ਫਿਲਮੀ ਕਿਰਦਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਭਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਵਧੀਆ ਕਲਾਕਾਰ ਹਨ। ਆਪਣੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਮਗਰਲੇ ਸਮਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਅਮਿਤਾਭ ਦੀ ਮਾਰਕੀਟ ਬੁਲੰਦੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਫਿਲਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੁਣ ਤਕ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਚੱਲਿਆ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਕਲਾਕਾਰ ਹੈ। ਅਮਿਤਾਭ ਦਾ ਸ਼ੋਅ, ਕੌਨ ਬਨੇਗਾ ਕਰੋੜਪਤੀ, ਮੈਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਿਆਕਤ  ਤੇ ਨਿਮਰਤਾ ਦਾ ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਕਾਇਲ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਇਹਦਾ ਇਹ ਮਤਲਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਬੰਦ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੇ ਕੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਉਂਗਲ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਕਰ ਲਈ ਜਾਵੇ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਦੀ ਦੇ ਸੁਪਰਹੀਰੋ ਹਨ।ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਭਾਵ ਕਿ ਆਮ ਜਨਤਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਇਕ ਹੀ ਅਸਲੀ ਨਾਇਕ ਤੇ ਮਹਾਨਾਇਕ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਵੇਂ ਇਕ ਮਿਸਾਲ ਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ।  ਸਾਡੀ ਬੀਤੀ ਸਦੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਇਕ ਬਾਬਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਵੀ (ਗੁਰਬਖਸ਼ ਸਿੰਘ) ਹੈ। ਬੰਦਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਨੂੰ 'ਨਾਇਕ' ਜਾਂ 'ਮਹਾਨਾਇਕ' ਕਹਿ ਲਈਏ ਤਾਂ ਸ਼ਾਇਦ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ (ਸਿਆਣਾ ਬੰਦਾ) ਉੱਜਰ ਕਰੇ ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਫਿਲਮੀ ਕਲਾਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਰ ਵਾਰ ਸਦੀ ਦਾ ਮਹਾਨਾਇਕ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਅਕਲ ਦਾ ਜਨਾਜ਼ਾ ਕੱਢਣ ਤੋਂ ਘੱਟ ਨਹੀਂ। 
ਕੱਲ੍ਹ ਕਲੋਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਜਣਾ ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਫਿਲਮੀ ਕਲਾਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਹਾਨ ਨਾਇਕ ਕਹਿ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ। ਤਾਂ ਕੀ ਅਸੀਂ ਜਨਤਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਇਕ ਦੇ ਮਤਲਬ ਬਦਲ ਦਿਆਂਗੇ? ਕਿਹਨੂੰ ਕਹਾਂਗੇ? ਤੇ ਕਿਹਨੂੰ ਛੱਡਾਂਗੇ?? ਜੇ ਭੱਦੇ ਡਾਂਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੇ 'ਜੁੰਮਾ' ਜਿਹੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਜੁੰਮਾ ਚੁੰਮਾ ਦੇ ਦੇ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਕੁ-ਗੀਤ 'ਤੇ ਨੱਚਣ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਦੀ ਮਹਾਨਾਇਕੀ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਨ ਸੁਣਨ ਵਿਚ ਅਜੀਬ ਜਿਹੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ। 
ਸਗੋਂ ਬੰਦਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਹਾਦਰ, ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀ ਬੀਤੀ ਸਦੀ ਦਾ, ਮਹਾਨਾਇਕ ਹੈ। ਬੰਦਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਹੀ ਸੀ, ਜਿਹਨੇ ਬਰਾਗੀ ਮੰਡਲਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਿਕਲ ਕੇ ਇਨਕਲਾਬੀ ਗਿਆਨ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਮਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਨੂੰ ਜਰਵਾਣਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੁਕਤ ਕਰਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਓਸੇ ਦੇ ਨਾਂ ਕਰਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਵਾਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ। ਹੋਰ ਕਈ ਸਮਾਜਕ ਸੁਧਾਰ ਕੀਤੇ। 
ਜੇ ਤਾਂ ਅਮਿਤਾਭ ਐਮਪੀ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਲਾਗੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਜਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਗੂ ਵਜੋਂ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਤਾਂ ਵੀ ਮੰਨ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਕਿ ਲੋਕ-ਨਾਇਕ ਹਨ।

Tito to marry in 2012

Los Angeles,- Mikail Mohammed alias Michael Jackson's brother Tito
Jackson is getting married to his long-term girlfriend Sonia
Galindo next year.
The Jackson 5 star was so moved when he attended the
London premiere of David Gest's documentary 'Michael Jackson:
The Life Of An Icon' earlier this month that he telephoned his
girlfriend Galindo and popped the question, and she excitedly
said "yes", reported MTV online.
The film focuses on the King of Pop's incredible life
from his beginnings with the Jackson 5 through to his death in
June 2009 and seeing his brother's tragic end on the big
screen inspired Tito, 58, to make the spontaneous proposal. Jakson was embraced ISLAM before his death.

Dog rewarded for keeping man,
girl warm in overturned car
    Sapporo, -It is said that man's best friend is
a dog. Now, a Labrador Retriever in Japan has proved it right.
    The government of the town of Naie, Hokkaido, has awarded
Junior, a 7-year-old male Labrador Retriever for keeping his
81-year-old master and his 3-year-old granddaughter warm in
an overturned car during a freezing night last week.
     Junior was given a collar with a gold medal and some dog
food during an award ceremony held in the northern Japanese
town yesterday, Kyodo news agency reported.
     The owner, Yoshimasa Soma, took his granddaughter Sukai
Kimura and Junior in his car from his home in Naie on the
evening of November 15, saying he would walk the dog.
     The car was later found lying on its side the following
morning on a riverbed several meters below a road in the
neighbouring town of Urausu.
     Police officers found Junior cuddling up to the girl and
licking her cheek in the car.
     The man and the girl suffered only minor frostbite on
their feet despite temperatures below zero outside and with
the window of the car broken, the report said.

Bodyguard's director Siddique finds next project
Kolkata,-Siddique, who directed Salman Khan
in 'Bodyguard', has signed his next film for producers Shyam
Bajaj and Narendra Bajaj.
Last year when the Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor
starrer 'Bodyguard' was being shot, Bajaj who was looking for
a good director and had enquired about Siddique.
"I asked Salman about Siddique and since he was happy
the way 'Bodyguard' was shaping up, he told me I should work
with him," said Bajaj.
Post the huge success of 'Bodyguard', Siddique had
offers from almost every banner possible but since this was a
commitment made even before his debut film's release he kept
his word and told all the producers that he would first fulfil
his prior commitment of making the film with the Bajajs and
then may consider other offers.
"It was nice of Salman to recommend me to them, I
immediately agreed. I also had to keep my word and I am happy
that I will be directing a film for them. There is no doubt
that it will be a commercial entertainer," said Siddique,
known for his comedy films in Malayalam cinema.


Woman gangraped, Rajesh and Gopi arrested
New Delhi,-A young woman hailing from
Maharashtra was raped allegedly by two youths in a South Delhi
guest house today.
Rajesh and Gopi were arrested in connection with the
incident, police said.
The victim, in her early twenties, had run away from
Mumbai to Delhi in search of a job, a senior police official
said.
"The girl was spotted by the duo at Nizamuddin railway
station and they promised to arrange a job for her. They took
her to a South Delhi guest house in Nizamuddin where they
allegedly raped her," the official said.
The incident came to light when the girl approached
police and filed a complaint. She was taken to a hospital
where a medical examination confirmed rape.
Following this, a case was registered against Rajesh and
Gopi.

Gaddafi

Not so long ago, western leaders were clamouring to shake hands with Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi, son of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. Now as Gaddafi's hold on Libya looks increasingly shaky, with the Libyan leader still clinging on to power, the same western governments are rushing to distant themselves from Gaddafi jnr. No Wonder!

Suave, urbane, goodlooking and accessible with his impeccable command of English, Dr Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi (he obtained a Phd from the LSE, of which more later) was regarded as the acceptable face of the Gaddafi regime. He had strong connections in the heart of the British establishment, among them Britain's own Prince Andrew the son of Queen Elizabeth II, Anthony Blair the former Prime Minister, Nat Rothschild a scion of the famously wealthy Rothschild family and Lord Peter Mandelson, former EU commissioner and one of Britain's most influential politicians. Blair has since denied that he is a friend of the Gaddafi family. Prince Andrew is now facing growing pressure to step down from his role as UK's trade ambassador.

In western capitals, Saif was the preferred choice as Gaddafi's heir. The colonel has seven sons but Saif Al-Islam, his second son, was always considered the most likely to become Libya's president, although another brother, Mutassim, Libya's national security adviser was a serious contender. A talented artist and professional architect with his own firm in Libya,  Saif Al-Islam (or sword of Islam) has spoken in the past of his desire to introduce democratic reforms in Libya. He was educated in London, where he obtained an MSc and PhD from the prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science. While a student at LSE, he moved in exclusive circles, meeting Prince Andrew who has paid numerous visits to Libya in the past in his capacity as Britain's ambassador although Buckingham Palace has been at pains to point out that the Prince is not a personal friend of Saif's; however, it is known that Prince Andrew has hosted Saif at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle. Prince Andrew and Saif share a mutual friend in Goga Ashkenazy, a fabulously wealthy and stunning beauty from Kazakhstan; Ms Ashkenazy helped the prince to find a buyer who paid above the asking price for his Berkshire mansion which had languished in the market without a buyer for three years. Ms Ashkenazy recently introduced Gaddafi jnr to Kazakhstan's president when he visited the landlocked country.

Jacob, 4th Baron Rothschild also hosted Saif at his home in Buckinghamshire; Lord Mandelson and the baron's son, Nat Rothschild were also present at the same party. Mandelson and Saif are said to have discussed the subject of Abdelbaset Al-Megrahi who was still in jail at the time. Nat and Saif are said to be good friends who also have another friend in common, the controversial Russian oligarch, Oleg Deripaska. For those not in the know, Deripaska emerged the winner in a bloody war for control of Russia's aluminium industry in the 1990s and was been banned from entering the United States in 2005. Deripaska would later feature in a political scandal involving Mandelson and George Osborne, now Britain's Chancellor. The story is as follows:

On the island of Corfu in the summer of 2008, Deripaska, Saif Al-Islam, Osborne, Mandelson and Nat were guests at the Rothschild's villa. Nat and George have known each other since they were students at the prestigious Oxford University. Again, it appears that Saif and Mandelson discussed the Megrahi affair. When George got back to London after a refreshing summer break, he denied asking Deripaska for a donation to the Tory party while Mandelson denied that he had favoured Deripaska's aliminium interests when he was EU Business Commissioner.  Osborne, perhaps still recovering from his holiday, claim that Mandelson had 'dripped poison about' the then British Prime Minister Gordon Brown at that meeting. Mandelson retaliated, threatening to reveal what Osborne had told him privately about his fellow Conservatives. It was all very messy business indeed. But back to our story.

Deripaska and the Rothschilds have valuable interests in Montenegro;  Saif threw a lavish party there to celebrate his 37th birthday, inviting some of the world's most powerful business figures. Meanwhile at the LSE, Saif is said to have made a donation of £1.5m but students have called for the university to return the donation. LSE has been embarassingly forced to announce that it would investigate allegations of plagiarism in relation to Saif's PhD thesis. But Saif Gaddafi's examiner, the renowned economist Lord Desai, says that he had earned the PhD, and that the LSE had been right to accept his donation. His only regret, Lord Desai said on Thursday, was that Saif Gaddafi had failed to learn enough about democracy.

The renowned Professor David Held who admitted that he had known Saif as a student at LSE has been criticized for not going far enough in his criticism of Gaddafi jnr, with one student saying, 'all Professor Held can conjure up is that Gaddafi must have been “overwhelmed by the crisis he finds himself in”?

 Rather than rushing to condemn Saif Gaddafi, perhaps we should make note of Professor Held's comments. According to Held, 'During this time I came to know a young man who was caught between loyalties to his family and a desire to reform his country......The speech last night makes it abundantly clear that his commitment to transforming his country has been overwhelmed by the crisis he finds himself in. He tragically, but fatefully, made the wrong judgement.' In other words, Saif Al-Islam is a product of an Arab society in which family loyalty counts strongly. Additionally, in the speech that Held refers to, Saif did mention that he was sorry for the victims. Equally, his stance might be wrong in the circumstances but it is worth noting that Saif Al-Islam, despite his high profile within the Gaddafi regime, has no official position within it, unlike his brother, Mutassim who is Libya's national security adviser. Now it has transpired that even the Oxford University Press has been caught up in the saga; the book publisher, regarded as a leader in academic publishing, did a deal in which it agreed to publish Saif's thesis. It is said that Saif was so happy he even offered to buy 20,000 copies, an unusually large amount that would have placed his book in the bestseller lists.

Despite widespread speculation, there is no evidence either to suggest that Saif himself ordered the violence even though he has vehemently defended his father, however disguided he is. Remember, this is man keeps live pet tigers in his villa even though his father is said to have urged him to donate these dangerous animals to Tripoli Zoo. This may help to explain why he found that Labour Party cabinets ministers were mere pussycats during his campaign to free Al-Megrahi. The fact that he remains unmarried at the age of 38 is a source of gossip in a Libyan society where early marriages are fairly common.

How did the west get so taken in by Saif Gaddafi? This may be because he made a good impression and has charisma; tall and handsome, Saif represented the acceptable face of the Gaddafi regime but the westerners were also greedy to get their hands on Libya's oil wealth, a fact which Saif himself was aware of. It is clear that the West heard that they wanted to hear and ignored the reality of the situation in Libya. Said Dr Omar Ashour, a lecturer in the Institute of Arab abd Islamic Studies at the Unversity of Exeter, "If Libya was a country without an oil producing capacity, I don't think Saif would have convinced the West. Because of the interests [the West had in Libya] the moral dimension was pushed aside for a while or frozen for a while. But after what happened in Libya in the last few days I don't think this can continue anymore." The fact that people are still taking an interest in the ongoing Libyan crisis is also down to Saif- as well as fighting on the battlefield, the Gaddafi regime has launched a media charm offensive. Just a few days ago, Saif dismissed Cameron's response to the Libyan crisis as "as joke" and declared that US Ambassador to the UN, Susan Rice, was "unfit to comment on Libya" as it was not "her business to talk about Libya" as "she is not Libya", assertions plenty of people, including Gaddafi's supporters will no doubt endorse.

Aishwarya admitted to Seven Hills hospital in Andheri

  Mumbai,-Actress Aishwarya Bachchan, who
is expecting her first child, has been admitted to a hospital
here in suburban Andheri.
     She was admitted to the Seven Hills Hospital in Andheri
late last night, spokesperson of the Bachchan family told PTI.
     However, it is not known yet when she is expected to
deliver the baby.
     Earlier, megastar and father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan
tweeted, "A day of expectation....but another day! The lord
has his way and they are most special....we wait!!."
     Last week, Aishwarya had visited the hospital for her
regular check-up.

Naseer is the boldest in 'The Dirty Picture',
 says Serial Kisser
     Mumbai,-Bollywood's 'serial kisser' Emraan
Hashmi feels that veteran actor and co-star Naseeruddin Shah
has got bolder and dirtier in their upcoming film 'The Dirty
Picture', inspired by late Southern sex siren Silk Smitha's
life.
     "As far as the bold quotient goes...I am doing my own
bold stuff but Naseer is the boldest in the film. I think he
has taken all my mantle in the film and he is doing what I use
to normally do in films," Emraan, who earned the 'serial
kisser' tag after Anurag Basu's 'Murder', told here.
     On scenes with the senior actor, Hashmi said, "We had
two-three short scenes..there is a premiere and party shots
but not many. They cross paths as they are in the same
industry. Naseer is an actor, Tusshar is a struggling writer,
Vidya is an actress. As you are being part of same industry so
you end up meeting people."
     The Milan Luthria-directed movie sees Emraan essaying the
role of a director. The actor claims that the film would have
been incomplete without casting him.
     "Everyone...everything is dirty in this film. It is the
dirtiest film I have done. You cannot make a dirty picture
without Emraan Hashmi," he said.
     'The Dirty Picture' is inspired by sex icon Vijaylakshmi
better known as Silk Smitha. The film shows the highs and lows
of a dancing star.
     "The tone of the film is bold and provocative. But it
does not cross the line into vulgarity.. Vulgarity is always
subjective. The concept is bold but at the same time
entertaining," Emraan said.
     Due for release on December 2, the film stars Naseeruddin
Tusshar Kapoor and Vidya Balan.


CBI doubles reward to Rs 10 lakh for info on Bhanwari
Jodhpur,-Failing to get any breakthrough in
the Bhanwari Devi alleged abduction case, CBI today doubled
the reward to Rs 10 lakh to anyone providing credible
information on the missing nurse as it carried out searches at
the farms of sacked Minister Mahipal Maderna, a key suspect,
and others.
The CBI move comes within a fortnight of announcing a
reward of Rs Five lakh on Bhanwari Devi on November 1 even as
Rajasthan High Court rapped the agency for the slow pace of
investigation in the case.
The reward for information on another suspect Sahiram
Bishnoi has also been increased from Rs one lakh to Rs Five
Lakh, CBI spokesperson said in Delhi.
CBI carried out searches at eight locations including the
farms of Maderna and Congress MLA Malkhan Singh's brother and
sister Parasram Bishnoi and Indira Bishnoi respectively.
Maderna has been questioned by the CBI twice last week.
He was admitted to hospital on Saturday where he is undergoing
treatment for "marginal blood pressure and mild chest pain".
A CD allegedly showing Maderna and Malkhan in
compromising position with 36-year-old Bhanwari, an auxiliary
nurse at a sub-centre in Jaliwada village - around 120 km from
here, had come to light after which she went missing from
Bilara on September 1.


3 doctors suspended for operating on patient's wrong hand
Ahmedabad,-Three resident doctors of the
L G General Hospital of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC),
were suspended for operating upon the non-injured hand of a
nine-year-old boy, instead of the fractured one.
The incident came to light today, when the parents of
the boy noticed that their son's left hand was operated upon,
instead of the fractured right hand, when he was brought out
from the operation theater, hospital authorities said.
Dr Shah, Dr Jaimin and Dr Umesh
, all second year resident doctors of the hospital,
were suspended with immediate effect, they said, adding that a
departmental inquiry has been ordered against the trio, which
will decide on the action to be taken against them.
Hospital authorities said that this kind of incident
should not have happened, and if the matter goes before the
Medical Council of India (MCI), the registration for
practicing of the doctors could be at stake.
They further said that arrangements have been made to
operate on the fractured hand of the boy and the consent of
his parents was awaited.


Neil Nitin  in 'Shortcut Romeo'
New Delhi,-Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh, who will
be seen in 'Players' and 'Pocketmaar', has bagged another
film, 'Shortcut Romeo'.
The film is the remake of Tamil film 'Thiruttu Payale'
and stars Ameesha Patel as the leading lady.
"Took test early morning for the next film! 'Shortcut
Romeo'. The homework we got to do, reminds me of school! But
then school wasn't fun," Neil tweeted.
The 29-year-old, grandson of the legendary singer Mukesh,
shot to fame with his 2007 film 'Johnny Gaddaar' and since has
done movies like 'New York', 'Lafangey Parindey', 'Tera Kya
Hoga Johnny', and '7 Khoon Maaf'.
Neil will soon be seen in action thriller 'Players',
official remake of Hollywood movie 'Italian Job', with
Bobby Deol, Abhishek Bachchan, Bipasha Basu and Sonam Kapoor
which is set to hit the theatres on December 23.


Michael Jackson's unseen tour footage for sale
London,-Never-before-seen concert footage of
Michael Jackson is to go under the hammer later this month.
The King of Pop's former chauffeur is selling off the
tape, which was recorded in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1993 on
his Dangerous tour, reported Contactmusic.
It is believed Jackson decided to scrap the film after it
was recorded because he was unhappy with the project and
presented the sole copy to his driver as a gift.
Experts predict the two-hour film will raise more than
its USD 6.4 million reserve when it is sold on November 26 by
Fame Bureau auctioneers.
"I'm very excited that this tape is finally going to be
seen because of its quality, the amount of cameras used and
the sheer closeness you are to the performance when watching
it," said Ted Owen, Ceo of Fame Bureau auctioneers.
Jackson died in 2009. Last week, his physician Conrad
Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter after a jury
in Los Angeles found him guilty of causing the superstar's
death by administering a powerful anaesthetic to help his
patient sleep.

Bhanwari Devi Case

Bhanwari case: CBI grills Malkhan,
 Maderna's wife for 2nd day
Jodhpur,-Congress MLA Malkhan Singh and
sacked Rajasthan minister Mahipal Maderna's wife Lila Maderna
were today grilled for the second day in Bhanwari Devi missing
case by the CBI here.
Malkhan, who represents Luni constituency in Rajasthan
Assembly, was grilled along with Lila at the circuit house in
the city, officials said.
Later, after coming out from the circuit house, Lila -
who had yesterday accused the media of trying to target her
husband - told reporters the CD purportedly showing Maderna in
compromising state with Bhanwari "was fabricated and aimed at
maligning the legacy of her family by their rivals".
Lila claimed she does not have any clue of any
relationship between Bhanwari and her husband.
However, she said, even if they were in a relationship
"it was not an offence and an act of mutual consent".
A CD allegedly showing Maderna and Malkhan in
compromising position with 36-year-old Bhanwari, an auxiliary
nurse midwife at a sub-centre in Jaliwada village - around 120
km from here, had come to light after she went missing from
Jodhpur's Bilara area on September 1. Her husband Amarchand
had alleged she was abducted at the behest of Maderna.
Sources said it is believed that Bhanwari was introduced
to Maderna some years back by Malkhan, who had already
admitted to CBI that he knew her.
CBI had yesterday questioned Mahipal, Lila, Malkan and
his sister Indira, who had earlier told media that Bhanwari
wanted a "settlement of the deal" with former Water Resources
Minister Maderna and she had approached even the Pali MP Badri
Ram Jakhar.
Maderna was sacked from the state cabinet on October 16
after his name cropped up in the case.
Sam for early passage of higher education bills
New Delhi,-Favouring early passage of key
bills related to higher education, Advisor to the Prime
Minister on Public Information and Innovations Sam Pitroda
today said they were vital for the nation's economy.
"Higher education reforms are essential if the nation is
to meet the serious challenge of skill shortage that will not
allow the economy to grow at 8 to 10 per cent annually," he
said.
In this context, he stressed on early passage of the
12-odd bills on higher education pending in Parliament and
especially referred to about "five bills which has been
drafted but not been tabled in Parliament as yet".
He said while several recommendations of the National
Knowledge Commission are in the process of being implemented,
they were awaiting the government to act on recommendations
relating to reform of higher education.
Talking about the ambitious National Knowledge Network
(NKN), Pitroda said the project is expected to be ready in
about nine months entailing USD 5 billion.
The network would be a state-of-the-art multi-gigabit
pan-India network for providing a unified high speed network
backbone for all knowledge-related institutions in the
country.


A urine test to predict pre-eclampsia!
London,-Now, a simple urine test during
pregnancy can predict whether a mom-to-be can develop pre-
eclampsia, a potentially fatal condition, say scientists.
The scientists say the new test detects specific kidney
cells in patients' urine to determine whether a woman can have
pre-eclampsia which appears in late stages of pregnancy and is
characterised by hypertension and excess protein in the urine.
In its research involving 300 women, a team at Mayo
Clinic found that out of 15 women who developed pre-eclampsia,
all tested positive for the cells.
Dr Vesna Garovic, who led the team, assessed a test
which detects the shedding of kidney cells called podocytes in
the urine. The team had previously found podocytes present in
patients with pre-eclampsia when they gave birth.
In this study, all the women who went on to develop pre-
eclampsia had podocytes in their urine, while none of the 15
who went on to develop high blood pressure or the 44 healthy
pregnant women did, the 'BBC' reported.
Although carried out on small numbers of women, the
researchers say the test is highly accurate for predicting
pre-eclampsia and could alert doctors early to the problem.
Andrew Shennan, Professor of obstetrics at St Thomas
Hospital in London, said: "Being able to use a simple accurate
test in pregnancy, such as from a urine sample, would be
valuable in identifying those women to watch closely.
"Current tests are not reliable enough, and further
work is needed to confirm these promising findings in larger
groups."


Sanjana to quit Prithvi Theatre
     Mumbai,-Sanjana Kapoor, whose name has been
synonymous with the Prithvi Theatre, the place of experimental
theatre in Mumbai, is planning to move on.
     Kapoor now wants to focus on her new organisation,
'Junoon'.
     The Prithvi Theatre Company was set up by Sanjana and her
brother Kunal in 1993. It was named after their grandfather,
actor-director Prithviraj Kapoor.
     PT hosts summer-time theatre programmes, workshops,
plays, theatre festivals, etc.
     But Sanjana now plans to quit its directorship. "Next
year will see some exciting changes in my life, with the
birth of new organisation, Junoon," she said in a statement
here.
     "To focus on Junoon and give my family time, I need to
step back from my involvement at Prithvi Theatre.... this
decision was taken in consideration with my brother Kunal."
     From April 1, 2012 Sanjana would cease to be the director
of Prithvi Theatre.
     "Kunal shall be the new person for any ideas and decision
to be taken for Prithvi Theatre."
     At Junoon, the statement said, Sanjana intends to
replicate the work done by Prithvi. It will take plays from
around the country to smaller towns.

BJP wants Rajarhat township renamed after Shyamaprasad
Kolkata, -BJP has thanked West Bengal
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the move to change
the name of 'Jyoti Basunagar' at Rajarhat and suggested that
it be renamed 'Shyamaprasad Mukherjeenagar' as a fitting
tribute to the patriot.
 Stating that no township should be named after Jyoti
Basu 'who pushed back progress' of West Bengal during his
tenure as chief minister, BJP state president Rahul Sinha
said "I must thank Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for saving
the dignity of the residents of the township."
Sinha said that it was in the fitness of things that
the township be renamed after Mukherjee whose efforts provided
shelter to innumerable refugees from erstwhile East Pakistan
in Bengal after Partition.

Students recycle cigarette butts into T-shirts
London,-A small group of Japanese students
has invented a way of turning cigarette butts into T-shirts.
The unusual recycling project involves the students
collecting old cigarette butts from outlets such as local
pachinko parlours and gas stations. And, after employing a
technique developed by scientists to reduce harmful toxins,
the threads are then woven into a fabric before being used
to make T-shirts, the 'Asahi Shimbun' newspaper reported.
In fact, the idea was the brainchild of Shinji Sawai, 21,
a student at College of Economics of Ritsumeikan University,
who was inspired by the quantities of butts he saw every day
at his local station while commuting.
Sawai subsequently formed a group called AOI with other
university students devoted to recycling the cigarette butts
obtained from overflowing ashtrays in local outlets.
The technology required to eliminate toxins from the
butts came about as a result of a collaboration with a
professor at the Kyoto Institute of Technology.
A number of companies in Osaka and Wakayama regions
have also become involved in spinning and weaving the threads
into a fabric, of which around 30 per cent is directly from
the butts, 'The Daily Telegraph' reported.
The end result is a fabric which is well-ventilated and
highly absorbent with a slightly uneven surface and varying
thickness levels, Sawai was quoted as telling the leading
Japanese newspaper.

Some core team members exploiting Anna: Former blogger Raju

New Delhi,- Anna Hazare is not allowed to
take his own decisions or lead the anti-corruption movement on
his own as some members of his core team "control" and
"exploit" him, his former blogger Raju Parulekar has alleged.
Parulekar, who fell out with Hazare recently after the
Gandhian distanced from him after a controversy erupted over
restructuring of the core team, also alleged that key team
members Arvind Kejriwal, Kiran Bedi and Prashant Bhushan had
no respect for the Gandhian.
      Parulekar claimed that the social activist had told him
that Team Anna members were "nothing without him".
It was financial and health reasons that made Hazare
stick to Kejriwal, Bedi and Bhushan, he told 'Open' magazine
when asked what were Hazare's compulsions to retain them.
"Annaji would like to lead, but is not. He has started
realising that this gang (Kejriwal, Bedi and Bhushan) is
exploiting him.
      He knows that as long as they are there, the movement
will not attract others who will work selflessly. This group
is exploiting public sentiment against corruption for their
own financial gain, fame and recognition," he claimed.
Asked whether Hazare was a free decision-maker, he said,
"I don't think so. Annaji is controlled by these people. They
have no respect for him, only for the brand he has become.
"He is weak and has a host of ailments, but all these
people want him for is to fast. These people should be kicked
out of the movement, otherwise, there will be no future for
it," he said.
As long as Hazare heads the movement, Parulekar said,
the trio "have their identities...but Kejriwal, Bedi and
Bhushan have their own plans. They are opportunists."
He also claimed that the decision to write a
Constitution for the movement was a "compromise" the 'gang'
had reached with Hazare to stay in the core committee.
Parulekar said Hazare should have stood by him as he was
only putting in public domain what he had said and claimed he
never misused it and alleged that Kejriwal and Bedi wanted to
vet the blog dictated by him, which "depicted" their regard
for Hazare.

Over 4,100 complaints against
Railways, MCD with CIC
New Delhi,-The Central Information
Commission has received more that 4,100 complaints against
Railways and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officials
while disposing off RTI requests.
According to official data, about 2,585 complaints were
filed against Railways with the CIC followed by 1,580 against
MCD and 1,439 against Ministry of Telecommunications.
Besides, 1,104 complaints were filed against passport
office, 1,103 against Ministry of Human Resource Development,
966 against State Bank of India, 957 against Employees
Provident Fund Organisation, 791 against Ministry of Home
Affairs and 767 against Defence Ministry among others, it
said.
     The data compiled by the Department of Personnel and
Training, nodal agency to oversee implementation of Right to
information Act, has 896 public authorities against whom
complaints were filed with the CIC since its inception in 2005
till November 24, 2010.
     It said 699 complaints were filed against Government of
NCT of Delhi, 294 against Prime Minister Office, 187 against
Delhi Development Authority and 171 against Delhi Police.
     According to RTI Act 2005, a citizen has right to access
information under the control of public authorities, which are
government departments, ministries, banks and public sector
units among others.
     The complaint against denial of information or providing
insufficient information can first be filed with the concerned
department's First Appellate Authority and then to the Second
Appellate Authority which is CIC for central government
departments and State Information Commissions for State
government controlled public authorities.

 Pomegranate: Nature's elixir of youth?

London, -Want to look young even as you age?
Eat pomegranate daily, says a new study which has hailed the
fruit as nature's elixir of youth.
Pomegranate is known as a super fruit for centuries for
its various health benefits, like it prevents heart disease,
relieves stress and improves sex life. Now, researchers say a
daily dose of the fruit could slow the ageing process of DNA.
For their study, the researchers at ProbelteBio
laboratory in Spain gave an extract of the fruit -- including
pith, peel and seeds, nearly 60 volunteers daily for a
month in the form of a capsule.
They monitored the activity of chemicals in their bodies
compared with those who took placebo and found a significant
decrease in a marker associated with cell damage, which can
cause impaired brain, muscle, liver and kidney function as
well as ageing effects on the skin.
This decrease,  a hitherto unknown benefit of consuming
pomegranate, is thought to slow down oxidation of the DNA in
cells which naturally occurs over time, say the researchers.
In fact, the researchers found a decrease in levels of
a chemical marker called 8-Oxo-DG in the participants' urine
tests. It is associated with damage to DNA caused by a host of
chemicals people eat, drink and breathe in.
"We are very excited about this study which we believe
demonstrates that regular consumption of this pomegranate
extract can slow down the process of DNA oxidation.

Helping out a friend in need 'is good for you too'
London,-Helping out a friend in need
is good for you too, say researchers.
A new study, carried out by the University of California
and published in the 'Psychosomatic Medicine' journal, has
found that selfless acts of kindness actually trigger brain's
reward mechanism.
For their study, the researchers conducted brain scans on
20 women as they provided moral support while their partners
were given painful electric shocks. They found that women who
comforted boyfriends, who were in pain, showed increased blood
flow to areas of the brain associated with reward.
This was apparently triggered by the release of the feel
-good chemical dopamine that is more usually associated with
chocolate treats or sex, say the researchers.
When the women were not allowed to provide support, these
same regions -- the ventral striatum and septal area -- showed
decreased activity, the 'Daily Mail' reported.
Naomi Eisenberger, the study's co-author, said: "The
ventral striatum is typically active in response to simple
rewards, such as chocolate, sex and money. It now seems likely
that some of the health benefits of social support actually
come from the support we provide to others."
Suggesting that this rewarding effect may be
evolutionary, she added: "Giving support to those we are close
to may increase their likelihood of survival."

'Rockstar' is soul stirring : Kashyap
New Delhi,-Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is all
praise for Ranbir Kapoor starer 'Rockstar', calling it a
"soul stirring" film.
Kashyap also said it is director Imtiaz Ali's best work
till date. Ali has previously given hits like 'Jab We Met' and
'Love Aj Kal'.
"Rockstar is not so much about rock as it is an
individuals story...its another kind of coming of age film..
just can't get it out of my head. It is easily Imtiaz Ali's
best. This is how a love story should be told. Soul stirring.
Still assimilating," Kashyap wrote on his Twitter page.
The movie also stars newcomer Nargis Fakhri and follows
the story of a small town boy who dreams of becoming a big
rockstar.
"It is unlike most films.. no cacophony of sounds..
quiet.. no unnecessary background to propel it forward..Ranbir
is just awesome. Such an unexpected film.. does not take any
easy route.. does not become a clap trap or a crowd pleaser..
It's just so heartfelt," Kashyap added.

Ranveer-Anushka on KBC to promote 'Ladies V/s Ricky Bahl'.
     Mumbai,-Bollywood actors Ranveer Singh
and Anushka Sharma will be appearing on the fifth season of
reality game show Kaun Banega Crorepati to promote their
upcoming film 'Ladies V/s Ricky Bahl'.
     'Ladies vs Ricky Bahl', a romantic comedy directed by
Maneesh Sharma and produced by Aditya Chopra releases on
December 9.
     "Had the lovely and bubbly Anushka and Ranveer on set
today ..! Such charm and energy and chemistry ..great to be
with them!!," Bachchan wrote on Twitter.
     The star pair created magic at the box office with their
last hit 'Band Baaja Baraat'.
     With the show coming to an end, Bachchan said he had an
unforgettable experience with the contestants and the team.
    "Last day of shoot for KBC... its been a marvellous
